Its clear that all camera manufacturers are just announcing the launch of their new models but they are finding it extremely difficult to meet the demand. After Nikon and Sony, now Canon has announced that their orders of EOS R3 will be delayed at least by 6 months.
Canon recently published an apology on its website. While we all are aware that chip shortage may be the reason behind this delay, this note from Canon gives “higher demand than expected” as the main reason for this delay.
Canon says, Currently, we have received orders for each of the following products in excess of expectations, and due to the impact of global parts supply, delivery delays are occurring. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers and business partners.
Along with the EOS R3, the RF 14-35 L IS USM lens will also be delayed. Canon adds, “The products are scheduled to be shipped one by one, but it is expected that it will take a lot of time for the new camera body EOS R3 and RF lens RF14-35mm F4 L IS USM.”
While Canon has not provided any certain timeline, they say it might take 6 months or more for them to start shipping the camera and lens. And this delay is for the orders they received till date. Its apparent that new orders will take even longer for them to deliver.
Apart from the EOS R3 and RF14-35mm f/4 lens, other items that will get delayed are:
- RF16mm F2.8 STM
- RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM
- RF400mm F2.8 L IS USM
- Eye cup ER-hE
- Lens hood EW-65C
It has been a challenging year for photography industry and we can only hope that things change for better soon.
